Debate Rages Over Whether Or Not TIME’s Oculus Cover Has Killed VR
The internet is currently on fire over TIME’s just-released cover story on virtual reality, mostly focused on Facebook’s Oculus Rift. The focus is less on the content, and rather on the cover itself, which many are deeming one of the worst in the magazine’s history, and a giant leap backward for VR as a whole.
The cover features Oculus founder Palmer Luckey wearing his signature Oculus headset, joyfully jumping in front of a greenscreened beach wearing a polo, jeans and no shoes. It’s more than a little uncomfortable to behold, like an alien is abducting someone doing an Arrested Development-style chicken dance.
There’s another faux-beach photo of Luckey in the article (below), which I heard Polygon’s Ben Kuchera aptly describe as “like an SNL sketch making fun of tech people.”
