Oculus Rift Puts Medical Students in the Operating Room
The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is largely associated with immersive gaming, but it could eventually help save lives. A group of medical professionals filmed an entire surgery using a Go Pro Dual Hero head-mounted camera, resulting in a 3D video that medical students can watch in order to get a virtual taste of the operating room. Dr. Gregory recorded the entire duration of a hip replacement operation, with the Dual Hero capturing a 180-degree viewpoint for students to watch on an Oculus Rift.
This is why VR is going to succeed this time. The technology is ready for the mainstream and the applications will be far and wide for it.
